Description
Registrations are now open for the annual Covenant of Mayors Ceremony, taking place at the Charlemagne Building in Brussels on 15 October 2026. This year's Ceremony will place local leadership at the heart of Europe’s climate and energy transition.
The event will bring together hundreds of local and regional leaders from across Europe alongside high-level representatives of the European Commission and other key stakeholders to discuss how local action is central to achieving European objectives.
Under the theme “Local Leaders for Affordable Energy and Climate Resilience”, this year’s Ceremony will highlight the decisive role of cities and regions in responding to today’s pressing challenges. As Europe faces growing geopolitical tensions, volatile energy prices and increasing climate risks, cities and regions are playing a critical role in protecting citizens and businesses. By accelerating homegrown renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, addressing energy poverty and investing in climate resilience, local governments are helping reduce external dependencies and keeping energy affordable across Europe.
Cities and towns are at the forefront of the transition, turning European climate and energy ambitions into concrete action through local projects, investments and citizen engagement. Covenant signatories, through their climate commitments and local action plans, are key to strengthening Europe's long-term security, competitiveness and preparedness.
The event will provide a unique opportunity to hear directly from European Commissioners Dan Jørgensen and Wopke Hoekstra, as well as exchange with other EU policymakers and fellow mayors from across Europe.
Beyond high-level dialogue, the programme will also feature focused workshops, peer-learning sessions, and dedicated networking spaces designed to support practical exchange and strengthen local capacity to act - from scaling up affordable clean energy solutions to advancing climate resilience on the ground.
