First technical dialogue of the European Commission with urban stakeholders on Sustainable Tourism

As part of the EU Agenda for Cities, the European Commission has established some actions focused on enhancing multi-level governance processes. Cities are not just beneficiaries, they are key partners for the delivery of common European priorities.   

The European Commission is committed to ensuring EU policies are more coherent and impactful at local level, and for this purpose, engagement with cities will be strengthened. In this context, technical dialogues with urban stakeholders, and with the participation of relevant Commission services, will be held on a regular basis, aiming to identify good practices and opportunities across thematic policy areas to reduce administrative burdens. Simplification efforts will be at the core of this process.  

A first pilot to experiment this new format at technical level will be organised on the theme of sustainable tourism on 22 April 2026 in Copenhagen, during the Focused Policy Lab organised by the European Urban Initiative. This dialogue with stakeholders, in particular city representatives, will aim at discussing specific policy questions of relevance to the upcoming EU Strategy for Sustainable Tourism, and to the work of the Urban Agenda for the EU Partnership on Sustainable Tourism which started in 2023.
